My Trak Racer TR160 Sim-Rig

Hello Racing Penguins!

I’ve taken the leap and “upgraded” my old Playseat Challenge setup, as I’ll soon be moving into my own space. After much consideration, I ultimately decided on the Trak Racer TR160. For the seat, I opted for the GT Style Bucket Seat. Since I previously only used one monitor for Sim-Racing, I decided to purchase three new 32″ Curved Monitors. I settled on 3x AOC CQ32G2SE/BK monitors with 1440p resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate.

If you’re interested in a similar setup, please note that the monitor mount is not included with the TR160!

iRacing: Dominating the PC Sim-Racing Area

The gaming industry has seen its fair share of racing simulators in recent years. Alongside perennial titles like the F1 series, games like Project CARS and Assetto Corsa, as well as Assetto Corsa Competizione, have made their mark in the industry. However, one title has consistently held the top spot in PC racing simulators for years: iRacing.

First and foremost, I want to highlight one of iRacing’s biggest advantages: its player base. It’s no coincidence that the game has remained on the market for many years and continues to be popular.

Nevertheless, the player base relies on the game’s ongoing development, new content, and exciting events. While a racing simulation aims to simulate a racing season and make repetitive races exciting, iRacing does an outstanding job here, continuously introducing new tracks, cars, and associated events.

When comparing the new Mercedes W12 in iRacing directly to F1 2021, it’s evident that the F1 series leans less toward simulation and more toward a mix of arcade racing and simulation. The F1 games also lack VR support.

Would I recommend it?

Yes, iRacing provides, in my opinion, the best racing experience among simulators to date and creates a good incentive for self-improvement through its sophisticated ranking system. Even though small details like lap time analysis or a better spotter are lacking, these can be quickly improved with tools like Garage61 and CrewChief.

Unleashing the Power: My New Sim-Racing Setup

Greetings, fellow Sim-Racing enthusiasts!

Today, on 03/01/2022, I finally received my eagerly anticipated new Sim-Racing setup and have already put it through its paces. For the wheel base, I opted for the cutting-edge Direct-Drive CSL DD Base from Fanatec (8 Nm) and paired it with two matching Fanatec wheels. The first wheel is the Fanatec ClubSport Formula 2.5X, perfect for Open-Wheel races, while the second wheel was snagged during a Black Friday special. Essentially, it’s the CSL BMW wheel in a different color. To complete the ensemble, I selected the Clubsport Pedals V3, which I had the opportunity to test earlier than the other components, and I’m extremely pleased with their performance.

If you’re interested in a more detailed review of the components I’ve chosen, stay tuned! I’m already planning to upload comprehensive reviews of these components here on RacinGPengu.com. I’ll add the articles to this post once they’re published.
